This is an excellent in depth critical response to Jesus’ prayers found in the Christian Bible. The author delves into the many prayers that Jesus delivered. He looks into the deeper meaning behind these accounts, and relates how they can have relevance in our modern world. John D. Hunt explores the history and uses of these prayers in society, and how praying can be a powerful tool in helping us to awaken our inner spirituality. Thus suggesting that by analysing and learning from these prayers we can better understand Jesus’ relationship with God, so that we can better understand our relationship with him and become closer to his love.

For Christians, this is a wonderful guide into the teachings of Jesus, that offers an insight into the world he lived in via his words. For a non-Christian, like myself, it provides a unique historical perspective on the life and doctrine of a man whose ethos was to love not hate. I found it a thoroughly enjoyable and informative read.

In this well-written, marvellous little book, John Hunt takes the reader down a path from what Jesus Prayer is and what it is what not, to the power of prayer, to the practice of prayer, to how to prepare yourself for prayer. Among other things, he covers how Jesus Prayer works, how to pray, why praying is therapeutic, why the best prayer is the short, simple prayer. Succinct. Pointed. Humble.

The author makes a strong case for the therapy of prayer. Drawing on biblical history to modern day studies, he explains in an easily readable and understandable manner why prayer is beneficial – whatever life's ways, whatever the situation, belief in a higher being can help in reorientation. And can lead to fulfilment.

The book is full of useful examples to help in praying.

I am not a christian but I believe in a universal law that works through energy. That can be explained through religion and/or science. I do not read religious texts except for research, but I must confess I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s written in an easy to understand way and the subject isn’t pushed hard. I loved examples of doing and being good in life and particularly like ‘let go and let god’, something I practice everyday.

If you are looking to get some easy ways to nourish yourself through prayer, then this is an excellent start!
