Centering prayer is called such because it has the effect of centering your life by uniting your person with the Divine. Centering prayer, according to St. John of the Cross, creates an interior silence where the Spirit anoints the soul and heals your deepest wounds. Also, as a result of this silence, we are better able to hear the voice of God and receive his wisdom.
Centering Prayer opens our whole being, body and soul, to God. As we let go of our prevailing thoughts, we go beyond them—where God is present, and with practice, we can enter into union with him. There is strength, healing, and guidance in Divine presence and union.
