What is THE PATH?

Most of us have done some traveling at one time or another, and even find it enjoyable. While we typically think of our travels as literal, they can be figurative too. The metaphorical path we are on began years ago at our birth and continues today. We journey through life and its many ups and downs, accomplishments and failures. We have endured hardship along the way and have experienced occasions filled with joy. We could say: Life is a journey.

We may not like the path we are on. We may think that our lives should have turned out differently. We may feel “stuck” in an undesirable position—failure, hardship, or pain. Our jobs make us miserable, our families keep us frazzled, and our days are always hectic. If this describes you, then it may be time to switch paths.

Our journey holds profound questions, and it seems to rarely give up the answers—not easily anyway. We may wonder why we suffer, whether life holds meaning, or where God is at in it all. Sometimes these questions arise from deep personal pain, and at other times they may simply burn within us—a longing, a hunger, a thirst. But as we journey, we make discoveries that inform where we have been, where we are going, and perhaps provides a few answers.

For many of us, we may not like the path we are on. We may think that our lives should have turned out differently or better. We may feel “stuck” in an undesirable position—failure, hardship, pain, depression. Our jobs make us miserable, our families keep us frazzled, and our days are always hectic. If this describes you, then it may be time to switch paths.

The search for answers or the quest for a better life has been going on for centuries. Through the ages, including today, people who took the search to heart embarked on literal journeys of discovery or pilgrimages to the holy. These travels move people beyond their day-to-day existence and into new lands, places, and people, presenting them with the opportunity for growth and transformation or an experience of the Divine.

But we need not go to distant lands to begin a new journey. A person can embark on a path of discovery or transformation or the sacred through heart, soul, mind, and strength. The Path calls us to enter the realm of the inner person and traverse the soul’s depths and the heart’s longings. The Path exhorts our minds to seek wisdom, guidance and practical ways to overcome everyday hardships. The Path beckons us to summon our inner strength, and to take on each day with courage and tenacity. On The Path, we will discover wonder and delight, acceptance and transformation, revelation and transcendence.

If you desire transformation or the sacred it will require intentionality. You will need to decide you want something better or different, and exercise your will in its pursuit. To travel The Path you will need to see your life as a journey and your role as a seeker for transformation (and all the good life has to offer). It’s time to initiate your quest and engage the longing for change burning with in you. It’s up to you.
