Few Things Pay As Well as Diligence

When you pursue something with the expectation of doing well or being successful, sometimes failure is the result, and you may become disappointed or discouraged. You may then decide to give up on your pursuit, but before you do, reconsider.

The despairing person does not roast his game, but the diligent person captures the rare prize.
— King Solomon, Wisdom Teacher

A drawn-out longing or perpetual shortcoming can result in a kind of illness—a loss of morale or hope. But fretting over what no power can restore only lessens a person’s faith and allows despair to grow. No doubt your ambition or dream is more difficult than cooking what you catch, but don’t cease because of despondency or difficulty. The debris of your failures may yet serve as the building material for greater possibilities.

Okay, you have reconsidered and have decided to give this dream or ambition another try. But a friend who says, “I’ll try to pick you up on time,” discloses that he is not fully committed to coming. Your friend’s attempt to merely try will not ensure that you get picked up, and your attempt at just trying will not suffice to accomplish your ambitions. Instead of just trying, try until. Keep on trying until you are successful. Be diligent.

The stirring of real emotion around each topic—hope, joy, pain, sorrow, gratitude, frustration with life, hope for a better me and future; these are the primary elements I look for when searching for a good book. The content of “The Path of Wisdom” and how it conjures up and provokes the soul needs to be read by all—fantastic! I would definitely recommend this book to friends.

Break the shackles of disappointment one chain at a time. Divide your dream or ambition into parts and accomplish the simpler steps. This “baby step” approach will give you the momentum to take on the more difficult tasks and realize your long-held ambition. But what if, despite your best efforts, you never reach your dream? As hard as that might be, it’s even harder to live with regret. If you must traverse the path of failure, you’ll have the assurance that you did your best. You can then look back without the pang of regret and courageously face the present, whatever it might be, knowing you could not have made the outcome any different.

When we fail, some may criticize us for our supposed lack of success, but what does the prattling world or obnoxious neighbor who has not seen our efforts know of our shortfall? What others think matters little when we know we have done our best.

Decide today that you, the diligent person, will pursue the rare prize. Never accept failure as final; raise from the ashes a new fortitude. Great men and women achieved, not because they had the best opportunities, but because they never gave up. Their success awaits you and me—the diligent.
